Events and notifications help you identify current conditions in SIA Connect, review what happened, and open the affected resource. Notifications in the header highlight conditions that may need attention. The Events page provides the complete retained event history and shows how each condition changed over time.

Understand notifications and events

Area Purpose
System Notifications in the header Shows current system, connection, license, instance, item, and mapping conditions that may require attention.
Events page Shows retained occurrences and individual transitions. Use it to search, filter, inspect, dismiss, mute, and export events.
Resource event history Shows events associated with a specific instance, item, mapping, or other resource.

Use notifications in the header

The notification indicator in the header summarizes the most important current condition. Open System Notifications to review the active notifications.

The header can show the following summaries:

  • Up to date: No active notification requires attention.
  • Information: An informational condition is active.
  • Update available: A software update is available.
  • Attention needed: One or more warnings are active.
  • Action required: One or more critical conditions are active.

Some important conditions also appear as banners. A connection banner, for example, appears when the browser loses its connection to SIA Connect.

The guest-session timer is shown separately in the header. While the timer is active, the same trial-running condition is not repeated in the System Notifications list.

Understand notification severity

Severity Meaning Recommended response
Information A status change or useful system message that does not normally require immediate action. Review the message and follow any relevant guidance.
Warning A condition that may affect operation or require attention soon. Open the affected resource and investigate the cause.
Critical A condition that is preventing normal operation or requires prompt action. Investigate immediately and correct the underlying issue.

Respond to a header notification

  1. Open System Notifications in the header.
  2. Read the notification message and check its severity.
  3. Select the linked resource or available action. Depending on the notification, you may be able to select Open instance, Open affected item, Open affected mapping, or Restart device.
  4. Correct the underlying condition on the affected page.
  5. Confirm that the resource returns to its expected state and that the notification resolves.

Select View all events to open the Events page and review more detail or earlier activity.

Dismissing a notification does not correct its cause. It hides the notification from the shared inbox for all users.

Open the Events page

Open Configuration > Events, or open System Notifications and select View all events.

The page shows the configured event-retention limits. If no custom limits are available, the portal uses a fallback of 90 days or 10,000 events.

Summary cards show the number of active, critical, warning, and resolved events. They also show the number of occurrences or transitions for the selected view. Select a card to apply the corresponding filter.

Choose an event view

View Use it to
Occurrences Review a complete event lifecycle as one grouped record, including when it was detected, updated, dismissed, muted, or resolved.
All transitions Review every recorded event change as a separate row.

An occurrence can have the status Active, Dismissed, Muted, or Resolved. Transitions can include Detected, Error changed, Details changed, Dismissed, and Resolved.

Understand inbox and resource-history events

Event kind Where it appears Available response
Inbox Can appear in the header notification list or as a banner. Dismiss the notification after reviewing it.
Resource history Associated with a specific instance, item, mapping, or other resource. Mute notifications for the affected resource when supported.

Dismissing an inbox event and muting a resource are different actions. Dismissal removes an inbox notification. Muting prevents supported resource errors from creating active notifications for the selected period.

Search and filter events

Use the search field to find text in event details. You can also filter by:

  • Status
  • Severity
  • Scope
  • Source
  • Event
  • Kind
  • Time range, including the last 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, or all retained events

Active filters appear above the table. Remove an individual filter or select Clear filters to return to the complete list. Select a column heading when sorting is available.

Inspect an event

  1. Select an occurrence or transition.
  2. Review its status, severity, source, type, resource, and message.
  3. Check when it was detected, its latest update, its duration, and the user associated with an action when applicable.
  4. Review the affected resources and lifecycle history.
  5. Use a resource link to open the affected page and investigate the cause.

For a restart-required event, users with the required permission can restart the device from the event details.

Dismiss an inbox notification

  1. Open the notification or event details.
  2. Select Dismiss or Dismiss inbox.
  3. Confirm the dismissal.

Dismissal is system-wide. It does not mute the affected resource, remove the event history, or correct the underlying condition. The action is only available to users with permission to edit notifications.

Mute a resource

Supported active instance, item, and mapping errors can be muted from the Events page.

  1. Select the active resource event.
  2. Select Mute resource.
  3. Choose between 1 hour, 8 hours, 1 day, 1 week, or Until unmuted.
  4. Optionally enter a reason.
  5. Select Mute notifications.

Muting is system-wide and records the user who performed the action. The event no longer contributes to active and inbox summaries during the selected period. Local errors and event history remain available.

To restore notifications before the mute period ends, open the muted event and select Unmute. Muting and unmuting require permission to edit notifications.

Manage several events

Select one or more events to open the selection action bar. Depending on the selected event types and statuses, you can use Mute resource, Dismiss inbox, Select all, or Deselect.

The page also provides actions to dismiss all applicable inbox events or mute all supported active resource errors. Review the selected scope before confirming a bulk action.

Export event history

  1. Select Occurrences or All transitions.
  2. Apply the required search and filters.
  3. Select Export CSV.
  4. Open the downloaded file in a spreadsheet application or text editor.

The export contains the current view and filtered results. Export is unavailable when there are no matching results.

Respond to common notifications

Connection lost

Check the network connection between the browser and SIA Connect. Confirm that the device is powered and reachable. Use Use the Ping tool when you need to test network reachability from SIA Connect.

System update available

Review the available version and schedule the update for a suitable maintenance period. Updating can interrupt active communication.

Restart required

Save any ongoing work and restart SIA Connect at an appropriate time. A restart temporarily interrupts the portal and Connector communication.

Guest session or license notification

Check the remaining guest-session time or the current license state. Activate or update the license when continued access requires it.

System reinitializing

Wait for initialization to complete before changing configuration. Refresh the page if the notification remains after the system has returned to normal operation.

Debug mode enabled

Disable debug mode when diagnostic logging is no longer required. Extended debug logging can increase log volume.

Instance unavailable

Open the affected instance. Check its parameters, Connector status, target device, and network connection.

Item or mapping error

Open the affected item or mapping and review its error details. Correct the address, data type, expression, source, destination, or related Connector condition. Mute the resource only when the error is understood and temporary.

Troubleshoot events and notifications

Issue Action
The header reports no active notifications Open the Events page to review resolved, dismissed, muted, or older retained events.
Events could not be loaded Check the portal connection and select Try again.
Older events could not be loaded Select Retry. Check the connection if the error continues.
No events match the current filters Remove individual filters or select Clear filters.
No events have been recorded Refresh the page after the system records a condition. Confirm that the selected time range is appropriate.
Dismiss or mute is unavailable Confirm that the event supports the action and that your role has permission to edit notifications.
A dismissed or muted error still appears on the resource This is expected. Dismissal and muting change notification behavior, not the resource condition. Correct the underlying error on the affected resource.
