Before you can access SIA Connect through a direct Ethernet connection, your computer must use an IPv4 address in the same network as the device.

This guide explains how to configure the network connection in Windows, macOS, and Ubuntu. It also explains how to test the connection and resolve common connection problems.

Default network settings

The X1 Ethernet interface uses the following network settings by default:

Configure your computer with an unused address in the same subnet. The following settings can normally be used for a direct connection:

If the SIA Connect network configuration has previously been changed, use its current IP address and subnet instead of the default values.

Connect the computer to SIA Connect

1. Confirm that SIA Connect is powered on.
2. Connect an Ethernet cable between the computer and the X1 Ethernet interface on SIA Connect.
3. Wait for the Ethernet connection to become active.
4. Configure the computer using the instructions for its operating system.

Configure Windows 10 or Windows 11

1. Open Settings.
2. Select Network & internet.
3. Select Ethernet.
4. Select the Ethernet connection connected to SIA Connect.
5. Find IP assignment and select Edit.
6. Change the setting from Automatic (DHCP) to Manual.
7. Enable IPv4.
8. Enter 10.20.30.100 in the IP address field.
9. Enter 255.255.255.0 in the Subnet mask field. Some Windows versions use a Subnet prefix length field instead. In that case, enter 24.
10. Leave the gateway and DNS fields empty unless your network administrator has provided other values.
11. Select Save.

Restore the Windows network settings

After completing the work with SIA Connect, restore the previous settings if the Ethernet adapter is normally connected to another network.

1. Return to the Ethernet connection under Settings > Network & internet.
2. Find IP assignment and select Edit.
3. Select Automatic (DHCP), or restore the static values recorded before following this guide.
4. Select Save.

Configure macOS

1. Open the Apple menu and select System Settings.
2. Select Network.
3. Select the Ethernet connection connected to SIA Connect.
4. Select Details.
5. Select TCP/IP.
6. Set Configure IPv4 to Manually.
7. Enter 10.20.30.100 in the IP address field.
8. Enter 255.255.255.0 in the Subnet mask field.
9. Leave the router field empty unless your network administrator has provided another value.
10. Select OK, and then select Apply if this option is displayed.

Restore the macOS network settings

1. Return to the Ethernet connection under System Settings > Network.
2. Select Details, and then select TCP/IP.
3. Set Configure IPv4 to Using DHCP, or restore the settings recorded before following this guide.
4. Select OK, and then select Apply if this option is displayed.

Configure Ubuntu

The names and positions of the settings can differ slightly between Ubuntu versions and desktop environments.

1. Open Settings.
2. Select Network.
3. Find the wired connection connected to SIA Connect.
4. Select the settings button beside the connection.
5. Open the IPv4 tab.
6. Select Manual.
7. Add a new address with the following values:
   • Address: 10.20.30.100
   • Netmask: 255.255.255.0
   • Gateway: Leave empty
8. Leave the DNS field empty unless your network administrator has provided another value.
9. Select Apply.
10. Disconnect and reconnect the wired connection if the new configuration is not applied immediately.

Restore the Ubuntu network settings

1. Return to the wired connection under Settings > Network.
2. Open the connection settings and select IPv4.
3. Select Automatic (DHCP), or restore the settings recorded before following this guide.
4. Select Apply.
5. Disconnect and reconnect the wired connection.

Test the connection

After configuring the network adapter, test whether the computer can communicate with SIA Connect.

Test using ping

Open Command Prompt, Terminal, or another command-line application and run:

ping 10.20.30.40

A successful reply confirms that the computer can communicate with SIA Connect at the network level.

Open the portal

1. Open a supported web browser.
2. Enter http://10.20.30.40 in the address bar.
3. Wait for the SIA Connect portal to open.

Troubleshoot the connection

If the portal does not open, check the following points in order.

Confirm that SIA Connect is powered on

Check the power connection and the status LEDs. If SIA Connect is not powered, its Ethernet interface and portal will not be available.

Use the correct Ethernet interface

For a connection using the default address 10.20.30.40, connect the computer to the X1 Ethernet interface.

Check the Ethernet cable

Confirm that the cable is fully inserted at both ends. Check whether the Ethernet link indicators are active.

A damaged locking clip can allow the connector to move or lose contact even when it appears to be inserted. Replace the cable if the connector does not remain securely attached.

If possible, test the connection using another Ethernet cable that is known to work.

Consider crossover-cable requirements

Most modern network interfaces automatically detect the cable type and work with a standard Ethernet cable. Some older computers do not support this feature and may require an Ethernet crossover cable for a direct connection.

Verify the computer address

Confirm that the active Ethernet adapter has the intended settings:

• IPv4 address: 10.20.30.100
• Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 or prefix length 24

The computer and SIA Connect must be in the same subnet. An address such as 192.168.1.100 cannot communicate directly with 10.20.30.40 when using these subnet settings.

Check for an IP address conflict

Make sure that no other device is using 10.20.30.100. Also confirm that the computer has not been assigned 10.20.30.40, which is the default SIA Connect address.

If another device already uses the selected computer address, choose another unused address between 10.20.30.1 and 10.20.30.254. Do not use 10.20.30.40.

Test the computer network adapter

Ping the address assigned to the computer:

ping 10.20.30.100

If the computer cannot ping its own configured address, the wrong network adapter may have been changed, the adapter may be disabled, or the configuration may not have been applied correctly.

Check which network adapter is active

Computers can have several network adapters, including Wi-Fi, Ethernet, VPN, docking-station, and virtual-machine adapters.

Confirm that the static address was applied to the physical Ethernet adapter connected to SIA Connect. Temporarily disconnecting VPN software or disabling unused virtual adapters can help when network traffic is being sent through the wrong interface.

Check firewall and security software

A local firewall, endpoint-security application, or corporate network policy can block ping requests or access to local devices.

If permitted by your organization, temporarily test with the relevant rule disabled. Restore the security setting immediately after the test. Contact your IT administrator if you cannot change these settings.

Enter the complete browser address

Enter the address directly in the browser address bar:

http://10.20.30.40

Do not enter it in a search field. Ensure that the browser does not automatically replace http:// with another address.

Confirm the current SIA Connect address

The default address may no longer apply if the network configuration has previously been changed. Use the current configured address if it is known.

If the configured address cannot be determined, the network configuration can be reset to its defaults. Resetting network settings interrupts existing network connections and should only be performed when necessary.
