Troubleshooting of Beckhoff TwinCAT ADS instances and items
While we strive to deliver the easiest possible connection to your devices, all systems are fallible and here are some of the known issues
This article will describe some of the most common faults encountered when trying to connect to Beckhoff TwinCAT ADS devices. All the various error messages is also explained here.
Error messages
Both instance and items can have errors. These are showed on the portal and the following sections describes the error and how to solve them.
Instance
Error message | Description | Solution |
---|---|---|
Target port not found ADS Server not started |
The IP address is not responding. | Check the IP address and that you can ping it. Ensure that SIA is in the same network as the ADS device. |
Invalid ADS port |
The ADS port is set incorrectly |
Check that the ADS port is set correctly (e.g. 801, 811 etc.) |
Item
Error message | Description | Solution |
---|---|---|
Symbol not found |
The symbol was not found in the device |
Check that you have spelt the name of the variable correctly. Check that the instance is connected to the correct ADS device |
Timeout elapsed |
The item is correct, but reading it took too long time |
Reduce the number of readings from the device, having the device on SIA Port X2 might also worsen this problem |
Same error message on all items |
This might actually be an error with the Instance |
Check that your instance is set up correctly and that the ADS port is configured correctly for what the device reports |
